Duolingo TikToks vs. Duolingo Ads
Today we are investigating Duolingo's most watched ad. 🕵🏼
They got my attention recently with their Global Social Media Manager's post about why Duolingo is doing insanely well on #TikTok.
Side tip: If you want to spice up your organic TikTok content, take Duolingo as your curated trend spotter. Apply the trend to your brand just after they post something new.
Looking at their paid ad side, I was surprised by how different the selection is.
Look at their most run ad in the last 365 days:

Don't get me wrong. This ad is doing everything right.
Start with a 5-star review.
Show the actual app interface.
Double down on the strength of the app.
But how would their ads have looked if the UA team had been more in sync with their social media team?
If I were in charge, I would run a dozen TikToks as ads on any vertical placement possible. Or at least take a few and use them as a hook to this best ad. Why not.
Hold your breath, however. Brands are getting sued for using copyrighted music, even for the videos they made for their organic channels.
Don't get stuck with known patterns; connect the dots in your content universe.
